The Darling Downs is a farming region on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range in southern Queensland. The Downs are to the west of Brisbane. The towns of Allora and Clifton are situated 161km south west of Brisbane, 50km from Toowoomba, 24km from Warwick and are 467m above sea level.
Allora is known as 'The Best Little Town on the Downs'. The town nestles beside Dalrymple Creek, just off the New England Highway between Toowoomba and Warwick. You may well think you are taking a trip into history when driving down the main street, a street described by one travel writer as 'one of the threee best streetscapes in Australia'.
